The History of Kids & Fishing

I grew up fishing
with my father and friends in Upstate New York. Those times are some
of the best memories from my childhood that I still carry with me
today. My time fishing made me feel very connected to the world. It
also gave me a fascination with the beauty and wonder of nature.
In August 2002,
the death of a close friend compelled me to reevaluate my life. My
priorities changed. By focusing my thoughts on the needs of others,
my life became better. It was my time to give back instead of take.
I was guided by a Higher Power to take this path.
I wanted to share
the great times that I experienced as a child, with kids that don’t
have the same support that I had. I also wanted to do my part in
cleaning up the environment. After doing a beach clean-up with the
Heal The Bay organization, I realized how much needs to be done. I
also realized that I could do more to help.
I had a boat that
was not running. I had a desire to take kids inner-city kids
fishing. I wanted to get involved with cleaning up the environment.
So, I came up with the idea of combining all of these elements and
created the Kids & Fishing program. I had found my purpose in life.
The support from
the community has been overwhelming. I am surrounded by people who
wake up each day wanting to make a difference; a difference in the
lives of children as well as the environment. I have never been
happier in my life. Committing to the success of this program is the
best decision I have ever made.
