"Contender’s” Maiden Voyage – 8/26 & 8/27 Trips
Kids & Fishing’s New Boat donated by Charles & Carmen Brown,
owners of Brown Bros. Auto Body & Paint Shop

Remember your first time on the ocean? On Thursday and Friday, August 26th & 27th, thirteen teenagers from the Los Angeles Conservation Corps’ Clean & Green environmental work and service program will have the opportunity to catch their first fish, be the captain of a boat, learn about navigation and boat safety, and maybe see a whale or two. Contender departs C-10 dock in King Harbor Marina (next to Sea Lab) at 8:45 am.

Redondo Beach based, Kids & Fishing is an all volunteer environmental nonprofit organization that educates and expands young inspired minds from the inner-city through marine awareness.

“Our goal is to produce conscientious citizens and reward them with a memorable experience,” explained Kids & Fishing’s Founder, John Sakacs. Our sponsors’ generous donations and participation has allowed us to expose school-age children to the magnificence of marine life and the wonders of the Pacific Ocean. I am overwhelmed by their generosity and commitment to our program.”

A very special thanks to Flying Cloud Yachts in Long Beach and the Brown Family for helping us to get our kids on our new boat and the ocean this summer!

We are excited to get as many at-risk kids out on the water as we can in 2010. We welcome your participation and encourage more boaters and donors to get involved in 2010-2011.

Our newest program; “City2 the Sea” is bringing more marine science to inner-city classrooms.
